What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle, guided approach that helps you access a heightened state of relaxation and awareness.

Often called guided hypnosis, this process uses focused attention and mindfulness to quiet the conscious mind so you can connect with the deeper layers of your subconscious, where thoughts, beliefs, and memories are stored.

Many of these beliefs formed in childhood, like “I’m not enough,” or “I have to make everyone happy.” Though they once kept you safe, they can quietly shape how you think, feel, and act as an adult, creating stress, self-doubt, or people-pleasing patterns that hold you back.

Through hypnotherapy, you can bring these subconscious patterns into awareness, release what no longer serves you, and create space for clarity, confidence, and lasting change.

Pat is a certified Hypnotherapist and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Practitioner. Over the years, she has experienced firsthand, the gentle and powerful changes personally and professionally in thoughts and behaviours having received and by providing hypnotherapy and EFT.

Understanding the Trance State

When you’re fully awake, your brain operates in Beta waves - alert and active. As you relax, your brain slows into Alpha and Theta waves, commonly known as the trance state.
It’s in this deeply relaxed yet focused state that you can access your subconscious mind - where lasting transformation begins. You already experience trance every day without realizing it.

The subconscious mind

That same state of natural focus and relaxation is what hypnotherapy gently guides you into - safely and intentionally - to help you access insight, release old patterns, and create change from within.

Hypnosis effectiveness

There are many paths to personal growth. Some people choose traditional talk therapy for behavioural support, while others turn to hypnotherapy to work directly with the subconscious mind.

A study published in American Health Magazine (August 2006, A. Barrios, PhD) compared the effectiveness of different therapeutic approaches, showing that hypnotherapy can help create meaningful change in fewer sessions.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. The most important factor is finding a method that feels comfortable, safe, and aligned with you.

Is Hypnotherapy for Everyone?

Yes, anyone can experience hypnosis. It’s a natural state of focused relaxation that everyone moves through daily. And rest assured: you’re always in control. Hypnotherapy cannot make you do anything your conscious or subconscious mind doesn’t agree with. It simply helps you align both parts of your mind to support positive change.

Mother Tree offers coaching and hypnotherapy to help you gain clarity, release old patterns, and create meaningful change. Together, we’ll explore what you want to achieve, uncover repeating themes in your life, and align your subconscious and conscious minds toward your goals.

During hypnotherapy, you remain awake, relaxed, and in full control. Using your own words, symbols, and metaphors, we work with your subconscious to update unhelpful patterns and open new possibilities for growth and healing.

Hypnotherapy vs. Stage Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy is not stage hypnosis. Stage hypnosis is designed for entertainment, performed in front of an audience with volunteers who are highly suggestible, and its effects are temporary.

In contrast, hypnotherapy is therapeutic and lasting.
It helps create meaningful, long-term change - supporting goals like reducing anxiety, building confidence, breaking habits, or improving overall well-being.

Coaching and Hypnotherapy compliment one another. Each session usually takes 1 hour.
